What did you do this past week?
This past week I had multiple tests to study for and a comedy show to attend! I thought the Software Engineering test was going to be a problem, but I got a good grade on it. Last week I’ve been obsessed with Home Assistant. It is a platform to automate your home with support for multiple third-party components. After setting up an instance on my server using Docker, I was able to realize its true potential when it comes to creating automations for simple everyday tasks.
What’s in your way?
I’ve been doing pretty terrible on multiple of the Cryptography quizzes, and it might an indication of how well I will do on this week’s test. I will try my best to pass!
What will you do next week?
I am sure mostly unproductive things. I will try to get together with the group now that the new project requirements are out and maybe start working on that early.
What’s my experience of the class?
Great so far.
What’s my pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
I learned a couple of UNIX commands this past week. One of them is the
truecommand. true will always exit with code 0 (meaning it terminated without errors). Not very helpful honestly. A more helpful command is the
yescommand. Yes, without any arguments, will output an infinite stream of the letter “y” followed by a new line. This can be really helpful when executing scripts requiring user confirmation that doesn’t have a force option. The command can be used as follows:
yes | sh install.sh
Summary of my experience This semester has gone by pretty fast! I’ve learned a lot of Python, React, SQL, and got a refresher on some of the design patterns I learned from Software Design with Read more…
